Exploring Toronto: A Fusion of Urban Marvels and Natural Splendor

Toronto, the vibrant metropolis nestled on the shores of Lake Ontario, is a treasure trove of diverse experiences. From soaring skyscrapers to serene natural escapes, here are some destinations we explored during our trip to this bustling Canadian city in autumn of 2023:

1. CN Tower

CN Tower is the most noticeable landmark in Toronto. The panoramic views of the city from its observation deck are great. But are they worth $50 is debatable. It is one of those touristy things I ended up doing anyway.

For the adrenaline junkies there is an experience called EdgeWalk. Visitors can have a thrilling hands-free walk around the tower's edge. I gave it a miss 😅.

2. Nathan Phillips Square

This bustling square at the heart of the city is home to Toronto's iconic City Hall. The 'TORONTO' sign in the middle of the square is very popular for taking photos.

3. Eaton Centre

Eaton Centre is Toronto's premier shopping destination. The sub-way station is conveniently located inside the mall. We did not spend much time here as we are were not looking to shop and also it was very crowded.

4. Ripley’s Aquarium

This is a relatively new attraction (again costly at $50). Visitors can explore fascinating marine life through immersive exhibits, walk through underwater tunnels, and witness mesmerizing displays of oceanic beauty. For me, observing the sharks, huge stingrays and turtles from the underwater tunnel was an exhilarating experience.

5. Bluffer's Park Lookout

After spending a lot of money in above activities and looking at man-made things it was time to get back to nature & reconnect with it. On a bright sunny day my uncle took us to Bluffer's Park. I would call it a hidden gem as no travel video/blog mentions it. We got to experience the awe-inspiring sight of the white cliffs at Bluffer's Park Lookout. The park area is huge. It also has a beautiful soft sand beach popular with locals. The dramatic views from the park overlooking Lake Ontario are a photographer's dream.

6. Autumn Colors in Edwards Gardens

To experience life as a local & to escape the urban hustle we went for a long walk in a park called Edwards Gardens. The vibrant hues of autumn foliage provided a picturesque backdrop for a leisurely stroll. There is also a botanical garden in the vicinity. I was elated to look at so many colors in the fall season.

7. Centre Island

A short ferry or water-taxi ride away is Toronto's peaceful oasis - Centre Island. Visitors can enjoy picnics, bike rides, stunning skyline views, and family-friendly attractions (in summer) amidst lush greenery.

8. Harbour Tour with Kajama

While looking for options to enjoy a longer boat ride on Lake Ontario we came across a unique sailboat experience offered by 'The Tall Ship Kajama'. We got to sail through Toronto's picturesque harbor, taking in breathtaking views of the city skyline. There were drinks and snacks onboard. The friendly crew told the history of the sailboat and throughout the trip made every effort to make it a pleasant evening for everyone.

We booked the sunset cruise & it allowed us to witness such picture-perfect moments. It turned out to be one of the most memorable evenings of our entire trip.

9. BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir

This one is for the Indians reading this post. Living in Germany I miss the typical Indian temples with
the exquisite architecture & intricate designs that invoke a sense of awe and admiration. I look forward to the tranquil environment & spiritual energy in temples. Toronto has a huge Indian diaspora leading to many places of worship. BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is an impressive temple with its architecture and design & a must-visit.
Another temple which we visited was the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple. I could imagine visiting it again if I was a local.

10. Indian Cuisine

We got to satisfy our cravings for authentic Indian flavors at Toronto's renowned Indian restaurants like Brar's & Rajdhani to name a few.

We also visited a few Indian grocery stores & one such place had a roti making machine churning out hot round rotis every minute.

The sweet shops were very inviting with the stalls of savory street foods & freshly made sweets. These places made us forget momentarily we are in another country thousands of miles away from homeland.

Commuting within the city is fairly convenient with the wide network of buses, trams and sub-ways. Tickets can be bought easily at such machines insides the train stations or buses.

There are many other places which we did not visit like the Royal Ontario Museum, Casa Roma & Chinatown.

Whether you're seeking cultural immersion, culinary delights, or serene retreats, this city promises an unforgettable adventure that caters to every traveler's desires.
