5 things to know before visiting Iceland

Image
Skogafoss waterfall Iceland is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Due to the reach of the internet and the traveling bug caught by most of us it is on everyone's bucket list now. However before landing in  Reykjavík it is useful to be aware of a few things. The smell!!! The tap water in Iceland smells (A LOT) due to sulfur. From what I had read only the hot water is supposed to smell and not the cold water but in our rented accommodation even the cold water in the kitchen had a distinct smell. Nothing can really prepare you for the odor.  The water is heated  naturally  b y geothermal springs, pumped from the ground and  supplied directly to each home.  The locals swear by the health aspect of the pure water and highly recommend drinking it however I found it really difficult to get comfortable with the smell .  Icelandic air  smells as well although it is very pure and clean. The smell is stronger if you are near a ge...

Prague - A short guide to the best things to do, see and where to eat in the capital of Czech Republic!

Image
Prague Prague is the capital city of  the  Czech Republic  in Central Europe. The city has attracted large number of tourists in the recent years due to its vibe and affordability. The currency is the  Czech   Crown (CZK).   My aim for this blog is to give the information in short and if you find the point interesting then you can search for more details online.  What to do? Exchange money! First and foremost, exchange your currency and have some CZK with you. Educate yourself with the current exchange rate, best place for currency exchange and how much you will need approximately.  Take a tour! To truly appreciate a city and its growth, a little history lesson is very important! Even if the streets of Prague are alluring you to start exploring on your own, don't! Start with a  guided walking tour :) Let the tour guide familiarize you with the city, its culture, history and then you can start exploring on you...

Mesmerizing journey through Provence - from the French Riviera to the lakes and mountains

Image
Provence  is the south-eastern region of France. It has a lot to offer and the highlights are the beaches (popularly known as the French Riviera ), the French side of the Alps mountains and the  Verdon Natural Regional Park. The French Riviera The 'French riviera' is the region with glamorous beaches on the south coast of France. We (me and my husband) visited Nice, Cannes, Antibes and Monaco . In these towns the beaches are the main attraction. There are mostly very few or no other typical sightseeing places like castles or museums like other touristy European  cities. Paradise  for sail boats and yachts Nice We landed at the Nice airport on 6th September 2019. We started the sightseeing by visiting the market in the Nice city center. I had read about a local vegetarian delicacy called Socca and directly went to the shop that sells it. It is made with chickpea flour, water, olive oil, salt and black pepper. Simple and delicious!  ...

3 day trip itinerary to the charming Bruges (Brugge) in Belgium

Image
Hello readers, Me and husband did a 3 day trip (3 nights, 4 days) in November 2019 to Bruges from Düsseldorf. Some people will say that's a lot of time for such a small city. For us it was a city break over a long weekend and we did not want it to be hectic and hence spending time doing nothing and wandering around the streets aimlessly was also part of the itinerary 😄. Expectations versus reality Expectations - As always I had done my research on Tripadvisor, Youtube, Google and talked to friends who had visited Bruges and hence knew what to expect. We had already visited Gent and Brussels few years back so were aware of how things work in Belgium. Belgium is famous for beer, waffles, fries and chocolate. So having all of these was definitely on the agenda. High expectations for these 'must-haves'. The weather was going to be rainy, cloudy and cold but I am now used to such weather in Germany so we were not going to let weather spoil our enthusiasm. Rea...
